Semiotic Quintet

Semiotic Quintet

×

Semiotic Quintet is an improvising ensemble that blends dense, precisely notated compositional structures with expressive improvisation, creating a dynamic tension between order and freedom.

Drawing inspiration from semiotics - the theory of signs - the compositions are conceived as frameworks for communication, where each performance becomes a process of discovering shared meaning. The music is rooted in 20th-century chamber music and the rhythmic vocabulary of contemporary jazz, while remaining open to individual interpretation.

The band's debut album, Kubizm (SJ Records, 2021), was praised as a cohesive and uncompromising artistic statement. The quintet has performed at Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, Jazz Juniors, Jazz w Ruinach, and Polska Jazz Festival in Budapest.
